Degrees Offered
Art/Fine Arts Program
Overview
The Fine Arts program offers several areas of visual art emphasis for students, including art appreciation, art history, and studio art courses in ceramics, digital media, drawing, figure drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Most studio classes are taught at introductory and intermediate levels.
Why Choose Fine Arts at TMCC?
Art classes help students learn visual literacy, foster creative potential, and expand cultural awareness. Students are encouraged to push their creative ability and find their own voice and style in the art-making process, through hands-on studio and critique practices.
The value of visual art in one’s life is often difficult to quantify and measure, but is important nonetheless, perhaps now more than ever. The proliferation and influence of digitally transmitted visual media has changed what it means to be visually literate. As we communicate more through images and videos, an appreciation of visual art, an understanding of its history, and access to art exhibitions help bridge cultural gaps, expand horizons, enrich lives, spur social debate, feed curiosity, and inspire creative thinking.
Students can take studio art classes for personal growth or to pursue a transferrable degree or certificate. Instructors in the studio arts program are practicing artists who bring hands-on experience to the classroom.
Additionally, TMCC has four Art Galleries on the main campus which provide opportunities for local and international visual artists, current art faculty, as well as TMCC art students, to exhibit their work. A Gallery Practices class give students an opportunity to learn the craft of curating and displaying artwork in live galleries.
